Ipswich Town Football Club is a professional football club located in Ipswich, Suffolk, England. They currently compete in the Championship, the second tier of English football, after earning promotion from League One in the 2022/23 season. Established in 1878, Ipswich Town turned professional in 1936 and subsequently joined the Football League in 1938. In their first season in the top flight, 1961-62, Ipswich won the English league title and finished as runners-up in 1980-81 and 1981-82. They consistently achieved top-six finishes in the First Division for ten years, except for the season they won the FA Cup in 1977-78. Ipswich Town had a notable presence in European football and emerged as champions of the UEFA Cup in 1980-81. The club has participated in all three major European club competitions and holds the distinction of being the only British side to have never lost a home game in European competition. They have defeated renowned teams like Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio, and Barcelona. Portman Road in Ipswich serves as the home stadium for Ipswich Town. They are the sole fully professional football club in Suffolk and share a longstanding and intense rivalry with Norwich City from Norfolk. The two teams have contested the East Anglian derby 148 times since 1902. Ipswich Town's traditional colors consist of blue shirts, white shorts, and blue socks.
